Stepping Numbers
For over five years now, I have been tracking my steps daily and I enjoy looking over the numbers. This section breaks down some of those numbers from this week and cumulative for the year.
High & Low Days
The high day of the week with the most steps was Friday, with 21,625 steps.
The low day of the week with the least steps was Saturday, with 16,518 steps.
Weekly Totals
Throughout the week, I met my daily step target on 7 out of 7 days. I walked 136,657 steps for the week with an average of 19,522 steps per day for the week.
Year to Date
With the steps I have walked this week, I now have 2,414,619 steps for the year. That places me around 315,374 steps more than the same time last year. The goal for the year is 7 million steps. There is another 35 weeks to go I need 4,585,381 steps or 131,010 steps per week.
This Time Last Year
I also find it interesting to look back to last year and see a comparison for the week and year to date progress.
So let’s look at the step details from week 18 in 2019. I walked 115,094 steps, giving me an average of 16,442 steps per day. Overall, I have walked 21,563 steps more this year.
The highest day for the week saw me walk, 20,011 steps a difference of 1,614 less than this year. While the lowest day for the week saw me walk, 15,172 steps a difference of 1,346 steps less than this year.

Other Thoughts
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect daily life, there is no actual change in how I am approaching my walking. I am still walking most of my steps each day at home. While going out for a short walk in the morning and afternoon away from home.
Where I live in Queensland, Australia, they have lifted some lockdown restrictions at the end of last week. It is now permissible to travel further from home for recreation. While some National Park’s and other recreation areas have reopened.
These changes mean that I could find more areas to go for a walk. However, I will leave that for a week or two while everyone else gets it out of their system. There were rather extensive crowds at some areas near me over the weekend. I am happy to wait for things to calm down.
I am also pleased with how I am progressing on my goal of 7 million steps. I need not monitor my walking too close to be staying on target. I know that reaching somewhere around 19,000 steps a day is ideal at the moment. But when days arise like Saturday where I very much struggled to reach my goal, I am ok with it.
Once I get out for a walk on a trail, I hope to share the experience. I have recently got a new camera and keen to get some photos to share. I will have to see what options are around and what is not to busy.
I hope you are finding the time to get out for a walk during this pandemic. But if you cannot get outside, remember there are plenty of ways you can get those steps indoors.
